Bad vibes sell. There are articles, studies and today, a full-color full page ad to prove it. Long thought to be the most (insert your opinion here) newscast, FOX gets us rolling with a reminder of their sales superiority. It’s not that FOX makes us an unhappy opinionated public, I’m pretty sure that like some art, the news is working hard to market ‘the hate you sell’ (almost the title of this episode) back to us through newscasters, opinion pieces and tone. It only fails if we cheer up, and here’s a way to cheer up…
In 2014, The Atlantic claimed no year in the century leading had been so filled with political rancor and dischord and anger. If only they’d waited two or four years. We’re so swamped with anger and hate that entire nations and states are working toward policy changes to lighten up social media. Lost among all this are ideas for countering hostile situations. Vitriol – we’ve mentioned that before at the cafe, but it seems increasingly so to be in more and more places around the United States. We have a piety problem; unthinking conventional reverence that we and like-minded brothers and sisters are in the right. And it’s all going wrong very quickly.
