Bad vibes sell. There are articles, studies and today, a full-color full page ad to prove it. Long thought to be the most (insert your opinion here) newscast, FOX gets us rolling with a reminder of their sales superiority. It’s not that FOX makes us an unhappy opinionated public, I’m pretty sure that like some art, the news is working hard to market ‘the hate you sell’ (almost the title of this episode) back to us through newscasters, opinion pieces and tone. It only fails if we cheer up, and here’s a way to cheer up…
In an exercise of putting the shoe on the other foot, a haphazard talk at what one might do to keep Amazon out of the witch hunt fires brought on by cries of “Monopoly!” Certainly those trials are coming, but could ducking the charges or appeasing the torch-bearers be as simple as out-zigging and out-zagging the other thinkers? It’s what Amazon has always done and to the reward of billions. He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind… Free Speech. Today, everyone it seems is judging others to have failed the acid test of free speech online, in person, at rallies and in life. Vitriol – we’ve mentioned that before at the cafe, but it seems increasingly so to be in more and more places around the United States. We have a piety problem; unthinking conventional reverence that we and like-minded brothers and sisters are in the right. And it’s all going wrong very quickly.
Easy to talk about getting together and publicizing things and griping about things, but what to focus on? Privacy is a White Elephant in the best of times and the definition is a moving target; it’s also intangible and has boundaries that shift from person to person. So, how about we get physical security into the vernacular? It’s a great idea. All high speed connections globally start where Firewalls can play and lead to Information that needs some amount of securing. Let’s take all the mystery out of it.
